Beef Pasty
I sincerely hope you would share the same passion as me!A pasty is a British baked pastry.
Mainly made with meat and vegetable filling.
The filling is placed on one half of a shortcrust pastry then folded in half to seal the filling.
Ingredients
- 500gm Beef cut into small cubes
-
25ml Oil
-
8gm Salt
- 10gm Plain Flour
-
60gm Carrots cut into small cubes
-
160gm Potatoes cut into small cubes
-
80gm Onion cut into small cubes
-
2 Shortcrust Pastry Sheets, Ready Rolled
-
1 Egg, beaten
Step No 1
Take the shortcrust pastry sheets out of the fridge to reach room temperature while preparing the meat and vegetables.
Step No 2
Heat oil in a pan.
Add the beef to the frying pan.
Stir well to allow the oil to coat the outside of the meat.
Cook meat and simmer the liquid to intensify flavour.
Step No 3
Then add the Onions, Potatoes and Carrots.
Mix the vegetables and meat together.
Add salt and stir again.
Finally sprinkle plain flour over the mixture and stir continuously to avoid any lumps.
Cover and cook for about 5 to 6 minutes.
Step No 4
Take off the heat and set aside to cool.
Step No 5
To make the pasty, lay the pastry sheet flat on a work surface.
Cut each sheet into 6 squares and position the meat mixture in the middle.
Step No 6
Fold the pastry over the meat filling to enclose, so it meets the bottom edge together.
Crimp the edges with your fingers to seal the pastry.
Transfer the pasties onto a lined baking tray.
Using a brush, egg wash the pastry all over.
Step No 7
Cook in a preheated oven at 180C Fan for 15 to 17 minutes, until golden.
Step No 8
Leave to cool for at least 10 mins before serving.
Comfort food at its very best!
