Crunchy Apple Crumble
I sincerely hope you would share the same passion as me!A British dessert; baked apples with a crunchy topping.
Apple crumble that became popular during World War II due to food rationing, as apples were available in abundance.
Ingredients
- 2 Large Apples
- 120gm Brown Sugar
- 150gm Self-Raising Flour
- 120gm Brown Sugar
- 90gm Cold Butter
- ½ Teaspoon Grated Nutmeg or Cinnamon
- 10gm Rolled Oats
- Ovenproof Dish – 8½ x 6 x 1½ inch
Step No 1
Cut the apples into quarters. Remove the core with a diagonal cut.
Cut the quarters in thin slices.
Arrange all the apple slices to cover the bottom of a greased dish.
Step No 2
Sprinkle 20gm of sugar over the slices and set aside.
Step No 3
Place the flour and diced butter in a mixing bowl.
Rub the butter and flour with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Step No 4
Add 90gm of sugar and half a teaspoon of grated nutmeg.
Mix together.
Step No 5
Sprinkle and spread evenly the crumble mix over the sliced apples.
Gently press the topping with the palm of your hand to ensure the crumble holds.
Scatter rolled oats and remainder of the sugar over the crumble mix.
Step No 6
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180C Fan for about 40 minutes, until golden and bubbling.
Leave to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Step No 7
Goes well with warm custard.
Alternatively serve with double cream or ice cream.
