Red Chilli Chutney

Red Chilli Chutney is warm, spicy and a versatile sauce.  

Made from dry red chillies, soaked in hot water and pureed to a smooth paste.

It is great with any meal or as a marinade.

Ingredients
  • 40 dry red chillies
  • 180ml hot water for soaking
  • 20gm Fresh Ginger
  • 15ml honey
  • 5gm cumin powder
  • 5gm coriander powder
  • 6gm salt
  • 40ml lemon juice
  • 100ml water for sauce
Step No 1

Soak the dry red chillies in hot water for about 30-40 minutes.

Step No 2

Drain off the excess water and transfer the chillies to a blender.

Add fresh ginger, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, honey and the lemon juice.

Step No 3

Blitz the ingredients in the blender with enough water to form a pourable sauce.

To serve, transfer the chutney into a bowl.

You could chill the sauce and consume within 5-6 days. 

Step No 4

Or – freeze in an ice tray.

Step No 5

When frozen transfer the individual chilli portions into a plastic bag and freeze.
